FAQ: What does an animal chiropractor actually do?
The question for this week is: what does an animal chiropractor actually do?
Simply put, animal chiropractors are trained to assess for and correct movement restrictions, or what we chiros call subluxations, within the spinal joints and extremities! Why is movement within those joints so dang important? 👇
Each joint has receptors that send information to the brain. When joint is freely moveable and not restricted, the brain is getting proprioceptive input. This is “good” input and tells the brain where the body is in space. When a joint is fixated or restricted, nociceptors take over. Nociceptors are “bad” input that the brain perceives as pain and dysfunction.
When the brain is being bombarded by nociceptive input instead of proprioceptive input, it’s common to see gait changes, postural or movement restrictions, pain, or lameness in our pets. 🐕
